What is the GenDev Scholarship?

The Generation Developer Scholarship was established to support ambitious computer science students in Munich financially and professionally. We firmly believe that practical experience at a young age lays the foundation for developing great software solutions later in life. The GenDev Scholarship aims to enable passionate IT students to invest time and resources into their own IT projects and thereby expanding their own IT skills.

Solve the Coding Challenge now and apply for the GenDev Scholarship until May 31st, 2024.

Would you like us to contact you at the start of the next application phase? Feel free to register here:

You can apply under these conditions

  • You are studying computer science or a closely related field (e.g., business informatics, software engineering).

  • You are passionate about software development and coding, and you invest some of your free time in working on your own IT projects or participating in hackathons.

  • You live in the Greater Munich area, allowing you to have a short commute to the exclusive scholarship events at the CHECK24 headquarters close to Donnersbergerbrücke.

  • You bring curiosity and passion for lean software solutions, a hands-on mentality, and an interest in exchanging knowledge with the other scholarship recipients.

Application process

We accept applications for the GenDev Scholarship twice a year, at the beginning of each semester.
To apply, please submit your current resume and your solution to our coding challenge through the online application form by the end of the application period.

What to expect from the Coding Challenge

On GitHub you can find the task description as well as hints for the solution. The completion of the coding challenge and the submission of your solution is a prerequisite for a successful application and represents the most important part of the selection process.

We hope you are having fun with the coding challenge, and we are already looking forward to your solution!

GenDev scolarship holder 2023

"The GenDev Scholarship is a great opportunity not only to receive financial support but also to learn a lot about a large German tech company. Here you meet others who are also interested in IT, learn a lot and make new contacts. It is particularly exciting to look behind the scenes and see how the company works - in terms of processes, people and methods. This scholarship is more than just money; it has really helped me personally to progress professionally."

  • What do I need to consider for the coding challenge submission?
Please save your solution to the coding challenge in a separate and private GitHub repository. The repository should be private to prevent other applicants from using your solution as an orientation. In a last step, provide READ permissions to
  • Where can I find more information about the Coding Challenge?
Here you can find the description and requirements, as well as helpful comments from the past coding challenge.  From March, we will publish all relevant information about the new coding challenge for the next application phase here on the website. If you don't want to miss the start of applications, register at the top of the page, and we will inform you by email as soon as you can apply.
  • How much time should I invest in completing the coding challenge?
According to our evaluation, you might need between 10 and 15 hours to complete the coding challenge. If you enjoy the challenge, you can of course invest more time. What is important is that you submit your solution together with your additional application documents before the end of the application deadline. The end of the current application phase is May 31st, 2024.
  • Should my application be in German or in English?
Whether you submit your application in English or German has no influence on the selection process. It is only important that all the information you submit are complete and that you send us the link to your private GitHub repository before the end of the application phase.
  • When will I receive feedback on my application?
After the application phase, we will review all applications in detail and contact you as soon as possible regarding the next steps. We aim to contact all applicants within two weeks after the application deadline. If we receive an exceptionally large number of applications, we hope you can understand that it may take a little longer.
  • Can I also apply if I don't live in Munich?
Yes, but the journey should not take longer than about an hour. Our experience has shown that scholarship holders with a longer journey unfortunately do not come to the GenDev events as regularly.
  • Can I apply if I am planning a semester abroad or if I am currently abroad?
If you are planning a semester abroad that falls within the 12-month funding period, please let us know in your application. For a stay abroad of up to three months, this will have no effect on your chances of receiving a scholarship. For longer stays, we would suggest that you apply for the next GenDev round.
  • Does the scholarship affect my BAföG?
You are receiving BAföG? Please let us know in your application, then we will provide you with further information on this topic.
  • Can I apply if I am completing a dual study program?
Yes, an employment relationship as part of your studies does not affect your chances of being accepted into the scholarship program. The only important thing is that you have time to take part in the GenDev events alongside your work and studies.
  • Can I apply if I already have a working student job?
Yes, absolutely! As long as you have time to take part in the GenDev events, a part-time job (working student job, internship) will not affect your chances of being accepted into the scholarship program.
  • Can I apply if I work at CHECK24?
Focus of the GenDev scholarship is to support young coders in their professional development and to connect them with each other. If you are a working student or intern at CHECK24, you already benefit from these opportunities. Therefore, we would like to offer others the chance to receive our support and do not accept internal applications.
  • Am I good enough?
In case you are wondering if you are good enough to apply for the scholarship we would like to encourage you to do so anyway. For us the most important requirement is your passion and motivation for writing code as well as your openness to steadily learn and grow.
Feel free to contact us, if you have any questions.
