GenDev – The CHECK24 tech scholarship

What is the GenDev Scholarship?

The GenDev Scholarship was created to help aspiring students in the field of computer science focus on what truly matters: getting your IT projects done. We strongly believe that hands-on experience and working on production code at a young age is the cornerstone for developing great software solutions later in life.

Applications are open again in April 2024.

Vielen Dank für das Einreichen!

To apply, you...

  • are studying computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field,

  • live in or around Munich,

  • love to code and are experienced in at least one programming language and

  • actually build software, therefore you know (or are curious to learn) what it means to run software in a production environment.

What to expect from the Coding Challenge

On GitHub you can find the task description as well as hints for the solution. The completion of the coding challenge and the submission of your solution is a prerequisite for a successful application and represents the most important part of the selection process.

We hope you are having fun with the coding challenge, and we are already looking forward to your solution!

Our mission with this scholarship

Support young tech talents on their journey
as passionate developers

We are passionate

  • We take the responsibility to shape the future generation of developers.

  • We are proud to support, educate and motivate young developers.

We are honest & fair

  • We treat each other as equals and take your ideas and work seriously.

  • We believe in radical openness to let you grow - that's why we will give you honest feedback.

  • By applying and receiving the scholarship, you do not enter into any commitment to us as an employer.

We are demanding

  • We expect you to constantly expand your skills.

  • We believe that the best way to expand your skills is by working on production code and learning on the job.

  • We offer you the opportunity to gain relevant experience in one of our software development teams - we don't stand in your way of programming important code.

  • What do I need to consider for the coding challenge submission?
Please save your solution to the coding challenge (https://github.com/check24-scholarships/check24-messenger-challenge) in a separate and private GitHub repository. The repository should be private to prevent other applicants from using your solution as an orientation. In a last step, provide READ permissions to messengerchallenge@check24.de.
  • How much time should I invest in completing the coding challenge?
According to our evaluation, you might need between 10 and 15 hours to complete the coding challenge. If you enjoy the challenge, you can of course invest more time. What is important is that you submit your solution together with your additional application documents before the end of the application deadline. The end of the current application phase is the 12th of November 2023.
  • Should my application be in German or in English?
Whether you submit your application in English or German has no influence on the selection process. It is only important that all the information you submit are complete and that you send us the link to your private GitHub repository before the end of the application phase.
  • When will I receive feedback on my application?
After the application phase, we will review all applications in detail and contact you as soon as possible regarding the next steps. We aim to contact all applicants within two weeks after the application deadline. If we receive an exceptionally large number of applications, we hope you can understand that it may take a little longer.
  • Can I apply if I am planning a semester abroad or if I am currently abroad?
If you are planning a semester abroad that falls within the 12-month funding period, please let us know in your application. For a stay abroad of up to three months, this will have no effect on your chances of receiving a scholarship. For longer stays, we would suggest that you apply for the next GenDev round.
  • Does the scholarship affect my BAföG?
You are receiving BAföG? Please let us know in your application, then we will provide you with further information on this topic.
  • Can I apply if I work at CHECK24?
Focus of the GenDev scholarship is to support young coders in their professional development and to connect them with each other. If you are a working student or intern at CHECK24, you already benefit from these opportunities. Therefore, we would like to offer others the chance to receive our support and do not accept internal applications.
  • Am I good enough?
In case you are wondering if you are good enough to apply for the scholarship we would like to encourage you to do so anyway. For us the most important requirement is your passion and motivation for writing code as well as your openness to steadily learn and grow.
